1. Monday's DLR for Week 8
2. Students finished reading "The Ransom of Red Chief".
3. Students worked on the 3rd and 4th text dependent question from the assignment in their journals labeled Text Dependent Question #1. The questions were as follows: 1. Choose 2-3 sentences or passages from 72 to 73 that share the irony of of the kidnapping so far. Explain your choice. How is it humorous? 2. On page 76, Bill and Sam signed their ransom note, "Two Desperate Men". Discuss the meaning of this signature using evidence from the text.
4. Teacher explained the expectations for Newspaper Project #1.

2. Teacher examined a few text dependent Q and A from students. (per. 1 only)
3. Students and/or teacher read pages 72-73 of "The Ransom of Red Chief".
4. Students continued to set up Text Dependent Question #1.  For question 3, students wrote the following question, "Choose 2-3 sentences or passages from page 72 to 73 that share the irony of this kidnapping so far.  Explain your choice.  How is it humorous? (per. 1 only).
5. Students and/or teacher read 71 to 73. (per. 1 only)
6. Students answered text dependent question #1. The question was as follows: "On page 72, paragraph 5, the captured boy gives a dinner speech. Based on that speech, what kind of boy did they capture?" (per. 5 only)

3. Students and/or teacher read pages 71 to 73 of "The Ransom of Red Chief"
4. Students did 1  text dependent questions on the Text Dependent Question #1 page in their journals. 2. It is: On page page 72, paragraph 5, the captured boy gives a dinner speech. Based on that speech what kind of boy did they capture?

3. Students and/or teacher did the Connect to Your Life and Build Background sections on page 69.
4. Students started working on Vocab. Sentences #4 for the story "The Ransom of Red Chief".

1. Q.O.D.-What was the Stamp Act?  Why was it created?  What was the main reason it angered colonists?
2. Students and/or teacher read about The Quartering Act on page 69.
3. Students watched a short clip on The Quartering Act
4. Students, in groups, reported on either The Quartering Act, The Townshend Acts, or The Boston Massacre.
5. News and Views assignments was explained.

1.Q.O.D.-Who were the two groups of people involved in the French and Indian War? What did both groups want?  What was the outcome of the war?
2.Students read page 66.
3. Students saw a short clip on The Proclamation of 1763.
4. Freewrite #3-What was The Proclamation of 1763?  Why didn't this solve the problem between Native Americans and settlers?  Write a 1/3 to 1/2 a page on this topic.
5. Students were numbered off so that they might cover a particular section of The Revolutionary War. (per. 4 only)
6. Students added a table titled Events Leading Up to the Revolutionary War #1 in their journals. (per. 4 only)
7. Students and/or teacher read about The Stamp Act on page 67. (per. 4 only)
8. Students watched a short clip on The Stamp Act (per. 4 only).

2. Students played a game with complex sentence starters.
3. Students underlined both independent clauses and dependent clauses in a worksheet that contained complex sentences.
4. Students glued complex sentence starters in their journals.
5. Students, in pairs, brainstormed reasons for and against a soldier disobeying orders.
6. Teacher and/or students had a group discussion about #5.
7. Teacher read "The Charge of the Light Brigade" to students. (per. 5 only)

2. Students worked on creating on some more compound sentences
3. Making an Oven from a Windshield Shade reading comprehension.

3. Teacher passed out notes on the different conjunctions and when to use them.
