1. Tuesday's DLR for Week 32
2. Students read "Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth". For this article, they wrote their viewpoint on the situation given as well as how the author of the article mentioned would have interpreted it.  Situation #3 was as follows: Jim was angry at Evan for beating him in basketball. He started this rumor. "Evan is such a cheather; he kept fouling me when the coach wasn't looking.
3. Students read a part of, then reported back to others in their group, the article titled "Teens Do their Share of Lying". Then, they wrote their viewpoint on the lying scenario as well as what the author of the article mentioned in this line would have said. Situation #4 was as follows:Kay wanted to buy beer so she could hang out with the college kids, but the store manager said she had to be 21. She showed her fake ID and bought the alcohol.

1. Thursday's DLR for Week 31
2. Freewrite #2-Explain, in a freewrite format, why lying is justified. Provide examples to support your position. This must be at least 1/3 to 1/2 of a page.
3. Students read Article 2 "Rejecting All Lies: Immanuel Kant"
4. In conjunction with #3, students filled out section #2 of the Lying Justification Chart in the My Viewpoint section and the Art #2 (C). Real-Life Situation: Matt's teacher was absent on Friday, and his friend Simon blew spit wads at the substitute. On Monday the teacher asked the class who was responsible for the spit wads. Nobody said anything, including Matt. As a result, the whole class had to stay after school.

1. Wednesday's DLR for Week 31
2. Students finished the Compare and Contrast Words chart
3. Students set up the Lying Justification Chart. Basically, this chart is spread out over 3 pages.  There are 5 columns on each of the 3 pages labeled as follows: My Viewpoint A, Art #1 B, Art#2 C, Art #3 D, and Art #4 E. Questions 1 and 2 are on first page, questions 3 and 4 are on the 2nd page, and questions 5 and 6 are on the 3rd page.
4. Students need to read article 1 and fill out their Viewpoint A and Art #1 B. I gave students the following situation to analyze: Maria's best friend tried on a new dress at the store. "I love it. What do you think?" she asked anxiously. "It's nice," Maria said, even though she thought it was awful. Hear friend brought the dress.

1. Tuesday's DLR for Week 31
2. Surveying the Text assignment 1. What are the titles for the articles? Based on the titles, what do you think each article is about? 2. Article 1 has a second title called a subtitle. What does the subtitle tell you about the topic?
3. Article 2 is called "Rejecting All Lies: Immanuel Kant. What does that tell you? Take a look at the first sentence to give you some information on the topic, and then read the italics in Paragraph 4. What does Kant seem to believe? Why are the words in italics?
4. Article 3 is written in a different format than others. Look carefully at the bold print. Why are some of the lines bold? Why is Blanton all in capitals in every other paragraph?
3. Students made the title Compare and Contrast Words in their Table of Contents. Then, they made 3 columns on this assignment which were labeled as follows: Word, Compare,and Contrast. In pairs, students wrote down words that were different and both similar from the following words: 1. rueful/ruefully: showing that you wish something had not happened but you accept it, 2.moral/morality: standards of good behavior, 3.credible/credibility: able to believed or trusted, 4.currency: 1. money 2. acceptance or use by people (e.g. to gain or lose currency). 5. inherent: a natural part of something that cannot be separated, 6. exile: to be banished or sent away from your home country, 7. pervasive: existing or spreading everywhere, and 8. emulate: to copy someone's behavior

1. Monday's DLR for Week 31
2. Students wrote 2 things that are truthful about themselves and 1 lie. In groups of 3, students had to guess what was truthful and what was not the truth.
3. Students read "The U.S. Political Campaign: Lies, Lies, Lies. After reading this, students wrote down a definition of the 3 types of lies in their journals. Students made the title The Three Types of Lies in their journal. Then, they made a T-chart. On one side, they wrote the words type of lie and on the other side they wrote the word definition.Students were required to list each type of lie and/or give a definition of each.
4. Lying Paragraph Obj: In a 6 sentence paragraph, tell me how lying makes you feel. Provide reasons for why you feel the way you do.

2. Students edited their rough drafts of Argumentative Essay #2.
3. Students worked on final drafts of Argumentative Essay #2 which is due tomorrow.

2. Teacher discussed the expectations for Argumentative Essay #2-Whether or Not Child Labor is an Acceptable For of Labor
3. Students worked on paragraphs one and two of essay mentioned in #2 (per 1/3) Period 5 is expected to finish first 3 paragraphs of their rough draft.
4. Teacher discussed the results of the last essay that was handed with students individually.

2. Students, with the teacher's help, read "Is Doing the Right Thing Wrong? A child labor dispute could eliminate 4,000 Pakistani jobs"
3. Students saw a short clip on the positive aspects of child labor
4. Students, in their journals, brainstormed 3-5 positive aspects of child labor.
5. Child Labor Freewrite #2- Is child labor necessarily a bad thing? Why or why not? In 1/3 to 1/2 of a page, address this topic. Provide reasons for your position.
