1. Monday's DLR for Week 34
2. Students made a top ten list of problems teens face in their journal.
3. After getting into groups of 4, they composed a list of the top 5 problems teen face which were shared with the class.
4. Teacher explained the expectations for speeches for incoming 6th Graders.
Obj: Make a speech that consists of advice for incoming 6th Graders.  One piece of advice may be comical; the other two must be serious.

2. Students read Chapter 4 Activity-Murder or Self Defense? The graphic organizer in this packet need to be filled out as well.
3. Students wrote Argumentative Paragraph #3 Obj: Argue for or against the idea that Jerome Ersland committed first degree murder.
4. Students started a Socratic Seminar on whether or not Jerome Ersland was guilty of first degree murder.

4. Freewrite #4-Who do you identify with better? Greasers? Socs? In a 1/3 of a page, tell me which group you can see yourself being a part of.  Give several reasons why you identify with a particular group.

2. Students listened to Chp. 3 of The Outsiders
3. Students did Writing Prompt #3-Foreshadowing refers to clues an author gives to suggest events that are going to happen in the story. When Ponyboy says, "Things gotta get better, I figured. They couldn't get worse.  I was wrong." The reader know trouble lies ahead.  Predict what you think will happen next. Please write at least a 1/3 of a page.

4. Students analyzed different aspects of the Greaser and Socs in the form of a chart in their journal.  Please see the teacher if you need assistance with this.
5. Students added a few entries to their Table of Contents in their journals.  Please see teacher for assistance with this.
6. Teacher briefly discussed the Words of Wisdom assignment

2. Writing Prompt #2- S.E. Hinton provides vivid descriptions of each major character in the book. Which character would like to have as your friend?  Why would they make a good friend for you?  Is there a character you would like to avoid?  Please write at least a 1/3 of a page.
3. Students and/or teacher read Chp. 2 of The Outsiders

2. Students finished listening to Chp. 1 of The Outsiders

4. Students added Character Descriptions Chart to their journals. Basically, there were three columns: character name, physical traits, and personality traits. Students discussed the following 7 characters: Ponyboy, Darry, Sodapop, Johnny, Dally, Steve Randle, and Two Bit.

2. Students read from California Gold Rush Days in the Bridges to Literature books
3. Students answered questions 2 and 3
4. Students wrote down, in the form of a list, the 10 items that they would take with them to California, had they lived during the time of California Gold Rush.  Students were asked to imagine which items they would take with them, had they made the several thousand mile journey from Missouri to California.
